DB’s directives on LPG crisis

JAMMU, Dec 10: In the court on its own motion Public Interest Litigation regarding shortage of LPG following announcement of cap by Central Government, Special Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice JP Singh has issued directions for holding of meeting of Oil companies, Divisional Commissioners, Senior Advocate D C Raina, ASGI K K Pangotra, AAG Seema Shekhar and Advocate R Koul on December 13, 2012 to devise a mechanism which may help in tiding over the problems of gas supply.
The Division Bench also directed all the stake holders to ponder over and evolve at least some adhoc solution for supply of gas keeping in view the extreme winter season which is fast approaching particularly in valley. “The report may be prepared and produced on next date of hearing in addition to the independent report to be submitted by the Managing Director JAKFED”, the DB said.
Earlier, in pursuance of the earlier directions issued by the Special Division Bench, Divisional Commissioners Jammu and Kashmir filed status reports along with reports of Deputy Commissioners. The Oil Companies also filed their consolidated affidavit.
The Court Counsel Senior Advocate D C Raina pointed out that there was wide difference between the number of consumers projected in the status report of the Divisional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners and that of oil companies. The affidavit of gas companies showed that they would be able to open 65 additional distributorships under Rajiv Gandhi Gramin LPG Vitrak Yojna (RGGLVY) by December 30, 2012.
