JAMMU, Nov 21: Taking serious note of inconvenience being caused to the general public, the Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh today asked the authorities of all the banks functioning in Jammu district to follow the instructions of Government of India in facilitating withdrawal of cash for meeting the wedding expenses.
According to an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner, it has come to his notice that many banks are refusing or unaware of the latest instructions of Government of India regarding withdrawal of cash for meeting the wedding expenses.
“It has also come to the notice that even where banks are aware of the instructions, they are insisting on further documentation such as attestation or forwarding letter from the Deputy Commissioner/Sub-Divisional Magistrates, which is not mandated as per the instructions”, the Deputy Commissioner said, adding “this is causing a lot of inconvenience to the general public and they are queuing up in the offices of DC/SDMs”.
“It is imperative that all the banks must follow the instructions of the Government of India and the Lead District Manager must communicate these to the banks for compliance”, the Deputy Commissioner said in the order.
The instructions of the Government of India dated November 17, 2016 read: “While encouraging the families to incur wedding expenses through cheques or digital means, it has been decided to permit families celebrating wedding to draw up to Rs 2,50,000 in cash from their own bank accounts. These accounts have to be necessarily KYC complaint. The amounts can be drawn only by either of the parents or the person getting married”.
“Only one of them will be permitted to draw this amount. This limit of Rs 2,50,000 will apply separately to the girl’s family and the boy’s family. The person drawing such amount has to furnish the PAN details. Further, a self declaration will have to be submitted by the person to the effect that only one person from his/her family is drawing the amount”, the instructions further read.
