KISHTWAR, June 8: Department of Youth Services and Sports Kishtwar today organized a cycle rally from Mini Secretariat to TRC Kishtwar, which was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner (DC), Ashok Sharma as chief guest of the event.
About 60 cyclists including school students took part in the race with an aim to motivate general people to use cycling in their daily lives for healthcare and physical fitness.
“Cycling involves different physical activities and if continuously adopted, one can be free from obesity, stress, anxiety and other diseases,” said the chief guest while flagging off the race.
He added that by adopting cycling by common citizens only for 30 minutes will decrease body fat levels, increase cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, improve joint mobility and posture and strengthen bones.
Later, the chief guest awarded cyclists with medals and certificates.
In the under-14 year age group category, Mohd Ibraheem bagged 1st position, whereas 2nd position went to Imad Abid, both the participants from Elite Public School Kishtwar and 3rd position was secured by Mohd Khayam from SDM Public School.
In under-17, the first three positions were bagged by Jibran Nabi, Mahran and Umar Farooq from Govt Boys Higher Secondary School Kishtwar, whereas in under-19, Shakeel Akther, Sameer Kumar and Akshay Kumar, all from Govt. Boys HHS clinched first three places respectively.
In the girl’s category, Sumedha Thakur from SDM School was the only girl who completed the cycle race.
