SRINAGAR, Apr 27: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah flayed Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and said that Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is better than SMC in its planning, execution and maintenance of the city.
Shah while speaking on the oath taking ceremony of newly elected office bearers of Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association (KHARA) said that Kashmir and Srinagar city, in particular, have turned into an ugly state due to unplanned growth.
Shah also criticised Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) for lack for proper planning in the city, including drainage system and said that the people of the city would have been consumed by diseases due to faulty drainage system, but for river Jhelum.
SDA has recently admitted that 91 percent residential buildings in Srinagar have been constructed in an unplanned manner, resulting in growth of slums, haphazard development and lack of urban infrastructure.
The Deputy Commissioner also said that adulteration of food have given rise to alarming increase of cancer in the city. “It is shocking to learn that the number of cancer patients is increasing every passing day in Kashmir due to adulterated food consumption, which is an eye opener for all of us,” he said.
