SRINAGAR, June 8: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara Khalid Jahangir chaired a meeting to review the progress of Agriculture, Horticulture, Education, Health, Sheep Husbandry, Handloom, Handicrafts, Social Welfare, Education, Animal Husbandry, Youth Services and Sports Departments.
The meeting was attended by Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Chief Education Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, DFOs Kamraj, Kehmil and Langate, Deputy Director Sericulture, Assistant Director Fisheries and Assistant Director Handloom.
DDC called upon the officers to provide respective services to the people. He instructed the Agriculture Department to establish additional demonstration farms for promoting hybrid varieties of vegetables. It was also emphasized that double cropping practice, which was in vogue for pretty long time needs to be re-introduced in the district for the benefit of the people. DDC instructed the Agriculture Department to mobilize field functionaries for facilitating the ongoing paddy cultivation and providing technical assistance to the farming community.
Considering the scope of high density varieties to improve the economic status of the people, the DDC instructed the Horticulture Department to making effort to increase the area under high density plantation in the district. He advised various departments like Agriculture, Horticulture, Panch-ayati Raj, Rural Development, etc. to organize awareness camps by providing their resources at the block and village level. Instructions were given for preparation of Joint Action Plan within a week time.
DDC also impressed upon the Health Department functionaries to ensure effective implementation of various healthcare services and also stressed for early establishment of GNM School at Kupwara.
He instructed the officials of the Education and Youth Services and Sports Department to immediately formulate a joint action plan for organizing various sporting events, debate and quiz competitions in the district.
While reviewing the progress of Social Welfare Sector, the DDC directed for targeted implementation of various social security schemes so that the funds allocated by the Government reach the deserving beneficiaries.
