RAJOURI, Apr 4: District Development Commissioner (DDC), Rajouri, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary held a conference of sportspersons belonging to different sports organisations and associations, here today.
Over 100 sportspersons drawn from different parts of the district attended the conference and apprised the DDC about various sports activities being carried out in the district and also projected infrastructural requirements to promote the sports culture in the district.
It was informed that T-20 tournament under the name Hindu-Muslim-Sikh-Isai (HMSI) is being organized at district headquarters with active support of Press Club Rajouri wherein teams from Kashmir, Jammu, Chandigarh and Delhi have registered for participation.
The sportspersons stressed for creation of sports infrastructure like stadiums, indoor stadiums, play grounds in Thana Mandi, Darhal, Rajouri, Koteranka, Nowshera, Sunderbani and Kalakote.
The sportspersons also projected the demands regarding water facility, electricity facility and the facility of ground men during the organization of various tournaments in the district.
They highly appreciated the keenness shown by the DDC to hold conference with them and have first hand appraisal of their issues and also applauded the steps taken by District Administration to weed out the drugs menace from the society. They sought cooperation of sports department in promoting the sports culture as this is only way to channelise the energy of youth in positive way where they can contribute towards the society.
The decision was taken by the DDC to establish a Sports Club in Rajouri, which will have members from sportspersons, senior officers of district administration and the officers from 15 Blocks of Youth Services and Sports Department and its mandate will be to provide all sports facilities to the youth for promotion of sports culture in the district, coordination with administration for development of infrastructure, preparations of yearly activity calendar and organising sports events at district and sub-divisional level.
Sportspersons were asked to identify lands for development of cluster grounds on priority basis.
Decisions were also taken for linking of teams participating in different sports events with flagship programmes of central and state governments for their promotion and awareness among masses.
