Deaf Judo team brings laurels to State; wins 13 medals in nationals

JAMMU, Apr 9: Deaf Judo team brought laurels to the State by outplaying all the 18 participating teams in the National Games of the Deaf, organised by All India Sports Council of the Deaf held at Aurangabad.
J&K team, which participated in the nationals under the banner of J&K Blind and Para Judo Association, claimed a total of 13 medals including 8 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals.
Rukaya Bano, Shivali Sharma, Nidi Sharma, Rakhshinda Mehak, Sanjay Kumar, Anil Kumar Sharma, Vivek Singh and Chetan claimed gold medals, whereas, Pooja Kumari and Abhishek Gupta took silver medals. The bronze medals were pocketed by Sonia Kumari, Monika and Neha Sharma.
Meanwhile, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din called on the team and felicitated the players, who had performed fairly well at National Judo Championship in presence of Rachpal Singh, MLA Kalakote, Suraj Bhan Singh, Judo coach, Vikas Gupta, vice president, Satya Jeet Singh, treasurer, Roshan Bhan, Principal, Deaf School and Vijay Gupta, president, Deaf Association, Jammu chapter.
Taj Mohi-ud-Din praised the team for brining laurels to the State through their excellent performance at the national level.
He hoped that they would continue to strive for excellence and never allow their disability to put off them for their cherished goals.
