Debutant Samad, Jatin hit fifties as J&K thrashes Nagaland by 9 wkts

JAMMU, Feb 21: Brilliant knocks by debutant Abdul Samad and explosive Jatin Wadhawan guided Jammu and Kashmir to 9-wicket victory over Nagaland in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Cricket Tournament at Chukapalli Pitchaiah Cricket Ground, Mulapadu, today.
Earlier, J&K won the toss and put Nagaland into bat.
Batting first, Nagaland scored a modest total of 136 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process. Wicketkeeper batsman, Pawan KB top scored with unbeaten 53 runs off 37 balls, studded with 3 fours and 3 sixes, while skipper R Jonathan contributed 31 runs off 42 balls with the help of 4 boundaries and one six. Inliwati, Nitesh and Abrar Kazi chipped in with 17, 13 and 11 runs respectively.
From Jammu and Kashmir, skipper Parvez Rasool took 2 wickets by conceding 26 runs in his 4 overs, while Irfan Pathan claimed 1 wicket by giving away 23 runs in his 4 overs. Youngsters Mujtaba Yousuf and Abdul Samad also shared one wicket each.
In reply, Jammu and Kashmir chased the target easily in 15.5 overs, scoring 142 runs by losing one wicket, thus won the match by 9 wickets. Openers Abdul Samad and Jatin Wadhawan played brilliantly, took the rival bowlers on a leather-hunt by hitting a series of boundaries and sixes. Both the batsmen hit the ball with fluid grace and utter brilliance. Samad scored unbeaten 76 runs off 51 balls, studded with 8 fours and 3 sixes, while Jatin scored 62 off 40 balls, with the help of 7 fours and 2 sixes. After the fall of Jatin’s wicket, Shubham Khajuria remained unbeaten on three runs and gave Samad company to take their side to home. Tahmeed was the only successful bowler from Nagaland, who claimed the only wicket to fall.
With this victory, J&K earned 4 points, while Nagaland failed to secure any point.
Jammu and Kashmir will take on Jharkhand in their next match tomorrow.
