Defending Champion India shows class, thrashes Australia by 54-20

Ahmedabad, Oct 8:
Defending Champion India, which had to face an embarrassing defeat by South Korean team in the opening encounter of the Kabaddi World Cup 2016 showing its class in the second match and thrashed Australia easily by 54-20 today.
India will now play its third league round match on October 11 against Bangladesh. It will also be a do-or die match for the hosts and a tough one as the team from the neighbourhood is a strong title contender.
In the two other mathces played today Bangladesh, last time’s number 3 spot holderr, thumped England 52-18 while Kenya defeated Poland in a hard fought game by  54 – 48.
12 Kabaddi teams from around the world including India, USA, England, Australia, Iran, Poland, Bangladesh, South Korea, Thailand, Japan and Kenya are participating in the event.
The final will be played on October 22. Prior to that the two semifinals will be on October 21.
Last time runners up Iran had won its first match against the USA yesterday.
Tomorrow the two encounters will be Argentina vs South Korea and United States vs Japan.
India was the winner of both the earlier editions of Kabaddi world cups while Iran was runners up on each occasion. (UNI)
