Sir,
Refer article ‘Private Role in Defense production’ DE June 6.
In order to be self realiant in defense hardware, there is urgent need for private sector to play its role in it. The public sector is not competent enough to shoulder this responsibility.
As an emerging world power, India has to be self-dependent to meet the requirement of its armed forces. At present India relies heavily on other countries for equipments.
For this, the country has to shell out a hefty sum which the country meets at the cost of deveopmental works. In case, we start production at home, it will not only save us huge sums of exchequer but will make us powerful and exporter of arms to other countries. Right now, India has the distinction of being the largest importer of arms.
It is quite heartening to know that Indian Defense Minister has finalised the broad contours of a policy aimed at engaging the Indian private sector in the manufacture of high-tech defense equipment in India. It is indeed a step in right direction.
Yours etc…
