Sir,
It is disheartening to hear that even after three years of announcement of the project, the Government has failed to start construction of building for AIIMS. This premier hospital was instituted to cater to the growing health needs of the region, but three years down the line, it all appears as a wild goose chase. Needless to say that it all points toward the incompetence of the earlier Government. Firstly, they were unable to earmark land for the construction of the building and once it was done, other bottlenecks have creeped up.
The District Administration of Samba, under which AIIMS has to be constructed at Vijaypur, claims that work is being done at a fast pace. But the ground report points towards a sordid state of affairs. The Government must answer this question that why such a premier institution is being delayed. The health of the patients must be a top most priority for any welfare centric Government but contrary to this, they have failed miserably in providing health services to the people of the region, who in turn, have to throng the hospitals of Punjab and Delhi thus causing a wastage of time and money. They couldn’t even open an OPD for the patients.
The Government stated that they have completed the land acquisition process and the nomads will be shifted soon to the other land identified for them. But, contrary to this, nomads claim that the record of number of families residing on the land with the administration is wrong and they will not leave unless it’s rectified. Nevertheless, there’s hope that both parties will sort out these vexed issues and AIIMS construction can be started soon. This will give a whole new dimension to the healthcare in the State and cater not only to Jammu but nearby areas of Punjab as well. Government, therefore, must prioritise this issue and remove all the bottlenecks as soon as possible
