SRINAGAR, Apr 4: A two-day dental camp organized by army in Mazbug area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district concluded today.
A defence spokesman said hundreds of people participated in the camp. He said Dr Pratibha Athawale, an Ahmedabad based dental surgeon, who has to her credit an admirable track record of rendering free medical services to poor and needy in remote parts of North Eastern India, spearheaded the camp tirelessly from 10 am to 5 pm on each of these days.
“Assistance in terms of a medical officer, two dental surgeons and a dental technician was also provided by Block Medical Officer Sopore Dr Sami. Over 400 patients were treated during the camp to include minor fillings, root camp and dental care,” he said.
The spokesman said the students and teachers of Army Goodwill School Sopore were the first to utilize this opportunity in an organised manner wherein more than a hundred students underwent the dental checkup on each day.
“Importance of oral hygiene was impressed upon the children and their parents. The team of doctors lauded the efforts made by the school and Army in this direction. Subsequently, the parents of students and locals also made maximum utilization of the dental camp in large numbers,” he said.
