Srinagar, Jan 28: Police claimed to have arrested three smugglers and recovered Deodar seeds worth lakhs from them in North Kashmir’s Handwara town.
A police spokesman said on a tip off regarding smuggling Deodar seeds, police established a Naka during the Monday night near Shanoo Muqam in Handwara.
“The Naka Party noticed movement of a white coloured Tata Mobile vehicle, JK05A-4407. During the search 27 bags of Deodar seed (approximately 10 Qtls) loaded in the vehicle were recovered by the party. The forest produce worth lakhs of rupees was supposed to be transported to other parts of the Valley,” the spokesman said.
The vehicle along with Deodar seed was seized and three persons boarding the vehicle were also arrested, the spokesman said, adding, a case FIR No. 17/2014 under Section 379 RPC, 6.F.Act has been registered and investigation has been started.
