JAMMU, Sept 29: On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti the Postal Department Jammu will host a four day long mega Philately Exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi on the theme “My Life is My Message” from 1st October to October 4 at Kala Kendra, here.
This is the first time a Stamp Exhibition on Gandhiji is being organized in J&K. In the world, maximum number of stamps have been issued on Mahatma Gandhi. This exhibition will showcase these rare and valuable stamps issued by India and other countries on Mahatama Gandhi, said John Samuel, Chief Post Master General, J&K while addressing a press conference here this afternoon.
He said M P Singh Isher, Vice Chancellor University of Jammu will release special cover on Mahatama Gandhi. The exhibition will be open for people, school and college students from 10 am to 6 p.m on all the four days. Four special covers on Gandhiji will be released during the exhibition, he added.
He said one of the major attractions of the exhibitions will be the issue of “My Stamp” where people can get a stamp printed with photo of individuals who order “My Stamp”.
John Samuel said as a part of this exhibition Department of Post is organizing a letter writing competition for school and college students on the theme “I love Gandhiji because…….” on 1st October, quiz contest on Gandhiji on 3rd and 4th of October and a debate on Relevance on Gandhian Values on 2nd and 3rd October.
He said Gandhiji look a like competition will held on October 2 for school children. Besides special lectures on Gandhian Philosophy daily by eminent speakers from the state will be the special part of exhibition. The winners of all these events will be awarded, he added.
He said the Fun run event will be flagged off tomorrow at 0730 hrs from University of Jammu in which more than thousand school children will take part.
