Leh, Dec 20: With the aim to promote sportsmanship amongst the youths and students of Leh, District Police Leh started four days Sports Festival under civic action programme of J&K Police, here.
During the sports festival various games like volleyball, 800 and 100 Mtrs races, table tennis, badminton, discus and shot put will be played in two different venues of EJM Degree College ground and Indoor Stadium Leh.
Training in Judo/wushu shall be imparted to the women participants for their self defence.
The Sports Festival was inaugurated by Prasanna Ramaswamy G, Deputy Commissioner Leh today at EJM Degree College Leh ground.
During the inaugural ceremony, Udhaya Bhaskar Billa, SSP Leh highlighted the sports festival and said that J&K Police has been organizing such events with an aim to build better police public relation and inculcate sportsmanship spirit amongst the youths.
In his inaugural speech, DC said that it is quite imperative to keep physically fit, adding playing various games and remaining busy in sporting activities makes one healthy and hearty.
He appreciated SSP Leh and District Police Leh for such initiatives and organizing the sports events and assured to extend all possible support to make the event successful.
Zahoor Ahmed Peer, DySP Hqrs Leh gave introductory speech during the inaugural programme and said that around 220 youth including male and female are participating in the Sports Festival in various events.
The inaugural programme was concluded with competition in tug of war, discus throw, 800 and 100 mtrs races.
J&K Police Leh orchestra team performed a colourful cultural program during the ceremony.
