Deshmesh Club lifts Baba Fateh Singh Memorial hockey title

*Stadium XI wins Sr Women hockey final

JAMMU, Nov 6: Scripting a resounding win over Young Star Simbal Camp by seven goals to two (7-2) in the summit clash, Deshmesh Club Jammu lifted the title trophy of the 1st Baba Fateh Singh Ji Memorial Hockey Tournament, organized by Hockey J&K at KK Hakhu Astroturf Hockey Stadium, here.
Formidable Deshmesh Club players dominated from the word go and succeeded in scoring the first goal through Charanjit Singh in 12th minute of the match, which was followed by three back to back goals by Sarabjeet Singh in 15th minute and Charanjit and Rakesh in the 19th minute respectively. Rakesh scored 2 more goals in 47th and 50th minute of the game and Satwant netted the 7th and last goal for Deshmesh Club in 63rd minute of the match.
For Young Star Simbal Camp, Jasbir Singh and Bharat scored the two goals in 48th and 55th minute respectively. Finally, Deshmesh Club won by a convincing margin of 5 goals (7-2).
Minister for Planning, Labour and Employment, Ajay Sadhotra was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister said sports is imperative for overall growth of an individual and stressed upon the youth for more and more participation in games and sports.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Jaswant Singh, Romal Singh, Sarla Kohli, Rajinder Singh, Harminder Singh and Taran Singh.
The match was officiated by SP Singh, Iqbal Singh, Jagjeet Singh, JS Reen and GS Bakshi, while the matches were conducted under the supervision of MS Reen, resident secretary, Hockey J&K.
Earlier, in the final match of the 2nd Senior Women Hockey Tournament, Stadium XI defeated Army Public School (APS) by three goals to nil (3-0) in an easy contest to lift the title trophy. For Stadium XI, the goal scorers were Shallu Mehra, Gargi and Jagjeet Kour, who scored the goals in 10th, 10th and 38th minutes respectively.
