JAMMU, Dec 21:  Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and member J&K State Advisory Board for Gujjars and Bakerwals, Abdul Hamid Choudhary today said that once border between India and Pakistan at Suchetgarh is developed for travel and trade, it will be a major Confidence Building Measure (CBM).
This dream once realized will not only usher economic activities but also begin a new chapter of Peace in the history of Jammu and Kashmir State, he said in a statement.
Hailing the desire of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that Suchetgarh should be developed as major border tourism point on the lines of Wagah border in Amritsar district of Punjab, Choudhary Hamid hoped a similar response from Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for necessary security clearances. He hoped that travel, trade and the economic activities will also cease prevailing hostilities all along the International Border (IB).
The PDP leader said that the way people are travelling and trading at Uri and Chakkan-Da-Bagh, this border should also be developed on same lines. He said that this should rather be a second ‘Wagah’, as desired by the CM, where daily ceremonies followed by travel and trade should be encouraged. This, he added, will develop R S Pura belt, encourage bird watchers of Gharana Wet Land and also give a fillip to tourism in the region.
Meantime the announcement of amusement park at Suchetgarh that Mufti Sayed made during his recent visit besides adding to facilities at tourist guest house and developing other necessary infrastructure, Choudhary Hamid said will bring Suchetgarh on the tourism map of India. Restoration of old Octroi post built during British Era, construction of multi-purpose hall, development of pond and landscaping of the lawns will add to the facilities and attract large number of tourists to the spot.
Criticizing opposition for discouraging people, the PDP leader said that state is back on the rails of development and now no one can reverse this era of prosperity.
