Rajouri, Sept 16: Terming sports as an important element to shape up one’s personality, Minister for Medical Education and Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din has said development of sports infrastructure is a priority with his department.
Addressing a public meeting here, the Minister said the State Government has submitted a sports infrastructure development proposal of Rs. 1000 crore to the Centre and Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has been kind to approve the proposal. He said under the proposal stadia and sports fields would be constructed all around the State.
Mr. Taj said Government has made a policy under which every block in the State would be provided with both indoor and outdoor sports complexes. The idea, he said, is to make sports activity and infrastructure available all through the year. He said many parts of the State, owing to harsh winters, do not have facilities to conduct sports events during winter and youth of these areas have to suffer by remaining idle.
The Minister said every panchayat in the State would be provided with a sports field and asked people to look for available land so that the same is developed as sports fields. He said the other sports paraphernalia like equipment etc. is also being upgraded and strengthened to meet the requirements of present times.
Mr. Taj said many epoch making steps have been taken by the Government during the past five years or so. He said historic legislations like J&K Water Resources Act, RTI Act, Public Services Guarantee Act etc. have been passed during this period. He said the State has also seen a boom of development activity by construction of schools, hospitals, roads and strengthening of facilities like healthcare, education, social welfare etc.
During his tour of the area, the Minister also inaugurated a T 20 cricket tournament. The inaugural match was played between the teams of Darhal and Jammu.
