KATRA, June 23: Punjab Wrestler Devinder Patha Padarth from Kohali (Amritsar) and J&K Police Wrestler Benia Min shared the 114th Thial- Chougan Dangal Title for the first malli bout which was played for 21 minutes at Thial-Chougan, Majalta, near here.
Both the Wrestlers were jointly awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 1, 11, 000.
49 bouts were played in one-day long Wrestling event.
Bishan Dass Sharma contributed Rs 51,000 as financial assistance to the organizers in the memory of his beloved father Late Durga Dass.
Ex MLA RS Pathania was the chief guest on the occasion who distributed cash prizes among the Wrestlers, while former Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council, President J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association of India Shiv Kumar Sharma presided over the function.
Senior BJP leader Nand Kishore Sharma, Bishan Dass Sharma, Contractor and NC leader Raj Kishore, BDO Prittam Ram Sharma, SHO Bharat Sharma, Varinder Kumar Badyal State President IHRC Youth Skill & Sports and Advocate Amit Sharma were the guests of honour.
Subedar Chain Singh, Rajesh Kumar Sharma (Raju) and Rattan Chand were also present on the occasion.
Dangal was organized by Thial- Chougan Dangal Committee in association with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association under the overall supervision of Krishan Kumar (President), Kartar Chand Master (Secretary) and Naib Sarpanch Kewal Kumar Sharma ( (Vice President).
The second main bout was played between Wrestler Subedav Aryan of Delhi and Wrestler Rameshwar of Mathura (U.P). This bout also ended in a draw and both the Wrestlers were jointly awarded with a cash prize of Rs 41,000. 3rd bout was won by Nisar of Doda who defeated Kapil of Hanuman Akhara Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, RS Pathania said that sports and games are the best ways to keep youth away from drugs and other social evils, adding that he felt happy to see youth involved in more and more sports activities.
