JAMMU, July 28: The workers of Dogra Front and Shiv Sena (DFSS) under the leadership of their president, Ashok Gupta, today held a protest in old Jammu City against 8-10 hours of power curtailment and water scarcity.
A large number of locals also joined the protest and came out with fans and empty buckets expressing their resentment towards unavailability of electricity and water. Raising slogans against the PDD, they said that the infrastructure of the PDD is very old and weak due to which the power supply has to be curtailed, as it cannot bear the load of the current power requirement.
While addressing the protesters, Ashok Gupta said one city is bearing the burden of other’s mischief of not paying the tariff. He demanded that the PDD should be segregated among three sections, as Jammu should have its own indigenous PDD, Kashmir should have its own Power Department and the same for Ladakh. He said that each department should be allowed funds and targets for the fiscal year which would lead to productivity and those regions which are not paying the tariff should bear the burden of cuts and non erratic power supply.
Gupta said that the Government has turned a blind eye to the issues of power cuts and water crisis in the city. He said that there are areas which are reeling under severe shortage of water and there are power cuts for over 9 hours a day affecting the water supply badly.
He demanded that a committee be formed for Jammu area for water and electricity, as when the secretariat shifts to Srinagar, the needs of Jammu are neglected. He further demanded that all pumping stations be supplied 24 hours power so that pumping of water is not halted.
