JAMMU, Oct 29: The workers of Dogra Front & Shiv Sena (DF&SS) here today under the leadership of their president, Ashok Gupta took out a protest rally against the soaring prices of onions and tomatoes.
Addressing the protesters Ashok Gupta said that prices for onions and tomatoes have gone up in last few days.
“Onions were priced at Rs. 25-30 per kg before Navratri but now these have gone up to Rs. 75-80 per kg,” he said.
“Earlier, tomatoes were Rs. 20 per kg but now these are being sold at Rs. 40-45 per kg,” he maintained adding: “The Government has procured over 5.07 lakh metric tonnes of onions and it is all set to procure another 3 lakh metric tonnes in days to come to keep the prices of onion under control.”
The Shiv Sena leader said that the buffer stock should be released at the earliest in J&K so that the upcoming festival season is not affected by high onion prices.
Ashish, Amit, Devinder, Roop Lal, Kishore, Kalu, Prem and others were also present in the protest rally.
