DG Sports declares Taekwondo C’ship open

JAMMU, Apr 22: 1st Open Jammu Taekwondo Championship being organised by Jammu and Kashmir Taekwondo Association under the aegis of Taekwondo Federation of India commenced at MA Stadium, here today.
The championship was inaugurated by Naveen Aggarwal, Director General, Youth Services and Sports Department, who was the chief guest on the occasion.
While speaking, DG assured to provide help to the sports which uplift the caliber of an individual. Prof Ashutosh Sharma, general secretary, J&K Olympic Association and Chairman, Indian Olympic Association Adhoc Committee, also spoke.
Later, DG felicitated the students, who excelled in Taekwondo at recently concluded National School Games, New Delhi namely Narmita Katoch (Gold Medal), Aryan Gupta (Silver Medal) and Raghav Mehra (Bronze medal).
Madan Lal, Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports Department, Kuldeep Handoo, general secretary, J&K Wushu Association, Faiz Ahmed, Account Officer, Youth Services and Sports Department, Nisar Hussain, Vice President (Kashmir), Anoop Mittal, senior Vice President, DJTA, Gurinder Rakwal, vice president, DJTA, Anuj Sharma, treasurer were also present.
In the championship, around 300 players and officials from Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Ramban, Doda, etc. are going to showcase their skills.
The technical team is being headed by Atul Pangotra with his team of officials including Rajat Thakur, Adnan Beig, Sanjay Kumar, Rahul Singh Chib, Arvind Satti, Pankaj, Nitin Singh Rathore, Davinder Singh, Narinder Sharma, Nitish, Burhan-ud-Din.
The Championship is being organized under the chairmanship of PC Sharma, president, J&K Taekwondo Association and DN Pangotra, general secretary.
The purpose of the championship is to select the players for forthcoming Sub Junior National Taekwondo Championship to be held in J&K.
