DGP felicitates boxers

Srinagar, Oct 15:  The Director General of Police Ashok Prasad and Addl. Director General of Police (ADGP) Armed SM Sahai today felicitated the Jammu and Kashmir Police Boxing Team for their extra ordinary performance in the 20th Senior Men and 8th Senior Women North Zone Boxing Championship held at Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Stadium Srinagar from October 10 to October 14,  2013.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police Boxing Team bagged 11 medals including 1 gold, 1 silver and 9 bronze medals in the championship. 115 players hailing from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh and Jammu and Kashmir participated in the championship. Khalida Bano of J&K Police secured Gold Medal for the State while as Asha Jamwal bagged Silver. The bronze medals were won by Shahnaz Akhter, Anju, Raman Sharma, Anju Bala, Zahid, Sarfraz Choudary, Stanzin, Maryam Manzoor and Praveen Manhas.
The DGP appreciated the J&K Police pugilists for winning medals in the championship and said that all sorts of help in the shape of infrastructure and training would be provided to the sports personnel of the Department in order to excel in various sports. He said that J&K Police deems it a responsibility to boost the talent of youth and make them able to compete at both National and International platforms. “Jammu and Kashmir Police is organizing various sports events and civic action programmes across the State to inspire youth and shape their talent”, he added.
While speaking on the occasion the DGP said that sports policy of J&K Police is in fray and will soon be introduced. “Talented sportsmen from across the State would be absorbed in the Department under this policy”, he added.
Earlier, ADGP Armed SM Sahai apprised DGP of the ongoing developments in Police Central Teams and also highlighted the needs for expansion of sports infrastructure in the Department.
