Dhanwantri Jayanti celebrated

JAMMU, Nov 11: Dhanwantri Jayanti was celebrated by various organizations across the region today.
Indigenous Medicines Organisation (J&K), Jammu organized a function in this connection here. The function was held under the chairmanship of Dr K K Gandotra, former Dy Director ISM in which large number of professionals participated. While paying floral tributes to this great personality, they termed the Lord Dhanwantri as creator of Ayurvedic system of medicines. Dr Gandotra asked the people working in this field to follow the path shown by Lord Dhanwantri and serve the ailing humanity selflessly with a spirit of dedication.
Dr Mahesh Sharma, general secretary of the body also spoke on the occasion and lauded the efforts of the people working in the field including director ISM. He said the members of the body have decided to go for free check up in various schools in near future. Dr Ashok Sharma, Dr Som Dutt and Dr Khazan Singh also spoke on the occasion.
Jammu and Kashmir chapter of All India Ayurvedic Congress also celebrated traditional Dhanwantri Jayanti with full devotion here today. Besides all district presidents of the body, Dr H N Patwari, Dr T R Gupta, Dr O P Gupta, Dr Dinmani Sharma, Dr B R Sharma, Dr Shyama Mangotra, Dr Vinod Mengi and others participated. On the occasion, rich tributes were paid to Dhanwantri, progenitor of Ayurveda.  A havan was also performed at Gorkah Mandir Nanak Nagar to mark the occasion.
Meanwhile, another function in connection with Dhanwantri Jayanti was held  in the premises of Rahul Pharma Jammu, manufacturers of Ayurvedic drugs. The function commenced with special Pooja. Dr Virender Mahajan highlighted the role and works of Lord Dhanwantri in the field.  He said that Jayanti is also known as Dhanteras or Dhantriodashi. Ayurveda professionals across the globe worship Lord   Dhanwantri on this day and offer prayers for the better health, prosperity and peace for the human sufferings. Dr Jagpooran Dass, a renowned Sanskrit Scholar and a spiritual preacher also gave very meaningful lecture on Lord Dhanwantri and his teachings and works. As per Vedas, Lord Dhanwantri is incarnation of  Lord Vishnu. Dhanwantri is considered as the Physician  of the Gods ( Deva Vaidya). It is believed that during the time of churning of ocean of milk by Gods and Demns (Asurs) for `Amrit’ (nectar), Lord Dhanwantri emerged from ocean with a pot of `Amrit’ and carrying conch (Shankh), Chakra and Jalauka in his four hands.
Dr S C Gupta, retired Dy Director J&K Health Services, Dr Taran Singh senior ISM consultant and Dr Harbans Singh also spoke on the occasion.
