Dhosmoche Mela concludes with burning of ‘Dhos’, ‘Storma’

LEH, Feb 22: With the burning of yearly grand “Dhos” and “Storma” the two-day grand Mela Dhosmoche concluded today amid chanting of prayer by monks drawn from various monasteries to ward off the evil spirit, ill fortune and natural calamities.
The “Dhos” and “Storma” carried from Chowkhang Monastery passed though the main market in the form of huge procession and enthusiastic devotees trying to catch a glimpse of the procession participated in the procession with zeal and fervor.
The big procession culminated at Katmochey where the huge colorful structure “Dhos” made of colorful thread along with other “Stormas” was put into flame amid chanting prayers by monks. Thousands of enthusiastic devotees thronged at Katmochey to witness the burning of “Storma” and “Dhos” simultaneously to mark the victory over evils. All the arrangement had been made by Leh Phu-Dhu Cultural and Welfare Society.
Earlier, masked monk from Thiksay Monastery in their best robes performed impressive mask dance near Jama Majzid in front of a huge crowd. Similarly, Liker Dhosmoche is also concluded today with the burning of yearly “Storma”.  Minutes before the Dhos puts into flames people rushed to the site to grasps a piece of thread from Dhos which they carry home believing that it will bring good fortune for them.
Describing about the ‘Dhos’ minutely, Daktho Monastery monk said every year the Dhos is prepared by the monks of Dakthok Monastery. He said such practices helps in dispelling the darkness to bring timely rainfall, unity, peace, prosperity and harmony in the society.
With this the two-day grand shopping fair at the historical Polo Ground came to an end.
