JAMMU, Feb 12: Former Ranji Trophy captain and ICL cricketer, Dhruv Mahajan has called it a day announcing his retirement from the first class cricket. Making his debut in 1998, this all rounder represented J&K for 16 long year.
Dhruv has played 48 First Class matches and 37 other list A games.
He also lead the state Ranji team for four years and was a real fighter and an aggressive player. Dhruv represented ICL for Delhi Giants and performed really well playing against the international players and made a mark for himself by winning a man of the match award and also by winning a few games for his side.
His extraordinary power hitting against otherwise economic speedster and a T20 specialist, Ian Harvey of Australia in an ICL match, still must be haunting the bowler as Dhruv smashed him for 2 massive sixes and 2 delectable fours to score 22 runs when his team needed 25 runs in the last over, falling short of just 2 runs.
When asked why he retires, Dhruv said, “I have played cricket with dignity and passion. Now, I feel the selection system is such that the seniors are not wanted.”
Dhruv thanked his Father Late Vaishno Dass Gupta for being his role model as a cricketer. He was all praise for his mother Manjula Gupta and wife Dr. Shwaita Gupta for being so kind and supportive during all these years.
The gentleman cricketer, Dhruv Mahajan praised his seniors for their help and encouragement. Dhruv has also played with youngsters including Ian Dev, Ram Dayal, Parvez Rasool, Abid Nabi and Shubham Khajuria.
Dhruv is presently working with a Jammu based IT company and expressed his thanks to the employer, Hilal Rather for employing cricketers. During all these years of his career, Dhruv has played for the Kishen Chand Cricket Club (KCCC) led by Romesh Mahajan.
