POONCH, July 23: In a bid to promote literary activities in this border town, District Information Centre Poonch organised a multi-lingual Mushaira in which eminent poets of Draba and Surankote towns participated.
Held at Higher Secondary School Draba, the literary function was presided over by Nazir Ahmed Qureshi, a prominent figure of the area, while celebrated writer and poet H D Betab and Principal of the Institution M N Qureshi participated as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.
Highlighting the importance of harmonious society, learned poet Abeynashi Lal Dutta recited that “Jahan Hindu Muslim Sikh all live in with affection and mutual harmony ——they promote secular tradition of this sovereign country”. He recited a patriotic poem drawing peculiarities of his home town Draba.
Another learned Poet Jannat Hussain in his poetic expression “people of all regions like Gujrati, Punjabi, Kashmiri, Assami and of Tamil Naidu respect nation flag Tranga and strive to hang it lofty all the times.” He further recited and posed question “Jhagra hai kya rang, nasal, zaat aur khiton ka———chand khudgarz log hamare Mulakh ko badnaam karte hain”.
Another enthusiastic young budding poet Mohammad Saleem Qureshi gave message in his poem ,”Beware that plunders may not loot hierarchy of our traditional civilization—-strike like a sword and dash their heinous designs like a soldier.” He further recited “I feel deep sleep but could not sleep—-due to passions to uphold safety, integrity and sovereignty of my country which is dearer to me.”
After recitation of poetry work all participating poets conveyed a word of thanks to DIC poonch and appreciated it for conducting such Mushairas for promotion of literary activities.
In same institution a symposium on the topic “Merits of co-education” was organised by DIC poonch where in Miss Mubeen Akhter and Mr. Sarfraz Ahmed were adjudged as first position holders where as Miss Shabi Shabab and Miss Anjum Qureshi secured 2nd and 3rd positions respectively who were awarded cash prizes while other participant speakers were awarded consolation prizes.
A debate was also conducted in Govt. Girls High School Draba over the topic “Merits and demerits of Information Technology”. Tannu Bakshi, Miss Nazia Kousar and Miss Mehreen secured 1st , 2nd and 3rd positions respectively who were awarded cash prizes and other participant speakers were provided with consolation prizes.
