DIG assesses traffic arrangements

JAMMU, June 21: The DIG Traffic Range, Jammu, Shridhar Patil, today conducted a review meeting at Range Police Headquarters Jammu to assess the traffic arrangements for the ongoing tourist season and the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
The meeting was attended by senior officials including SSP Traffic NHW Ramban, Rohit Baskotra, SSP Traffic Rural Jammu, Vinay Kumar, SSP Traffic City Jammu, Mohammad Faisel Qureshi, Raj Paul, Additional SP Traffic City Jammu, and Deputy Superintendents from all Traffic Units of Traffic Range Jammu.
A press statement said that the meeting commenced with the DIG seeking feedback from all officers about the challenges faced on the ground and discussing plans to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
The SSPs Traffic were instructed to provide detailed traffic arrangements for their respective jurisdictions, including night duty shifts, to facilitate a seamless conduct of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
Moreover, the DIG Traffic Jammu directed the SSP Traffic City Jammu to ensure the deployment of traffic police personnel at the base camp, at least one hour prior to the start of the yatra convoys, and their presence until late evening.
He also suggested shift duties to keep the traffic personnel alert and active throughout the day. The DIG also emphasized the need to take strict action against overloaded vehicles and those operating without fitness certificates.
In addition, all SSPs were urged to upgrade communication systems and Traffic Control Units (TCUs) to ensure a swift and reliable information management system for disseminating information to the public. This would allow commuters to plan their journeys without any inconvenience.
The DIG Traffic suggested utilizing the Public Announcement (PA) systems installed in vehicles of all officers to guide and facilitate tourists and pilgrims. He further stressed the importance of devising a mechanism for the movement of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) on the National Highway in a way that minimizes traffic congestion.
Lastly, all officers were advised to brief the personnel deployed during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra to be proactive in assisting the pilgrims within their respective areas of responsibility.
