JAMMU, Nov. 8: Aircel XI and GCA Haryana XI registered emphatic wins to stay alive in the 3rd Eid-Diwali Milan T20 Cricket Cup, which got underway at Gulshan Ground, here today.
The tournament in which 16 teams are participating is being organized jointly by Jammu and Kashmir Police Department, Simula Club and Atman College.
Earlier, Shakeel Beig, DIG Jammu in presence of Sanjay Mahajan MD Atman College, Rajnish Pran Staff Officer to DIG, Parshotam Sharma DDP RPHQ and Rajesh Gill, former Ranji player inaugurated the tournament in an impressive and colourful function.
While speaking on the occasion, DIG Jammu lauded the efforts of the organizers in conducting this mega event and said that the events held on the occasion of the festivals like Eid, Diwali etc smacks a feeling of extreme bliss and ecstasy in everybody’s mind.
He further said that the title and objective of the tournament is good because it involves the message of communal brotherhood which is very important and the need of the hour in the present scenario.
Mr Beig added that the main objective of the J&K Police is to provide a platform to the youths of the State to exhibit their talent so that their energy can be channelized in a right direction and they shall not derail from the main stream.
Earlier the welcome address was presented by Parshotam Sharma, Deputy Director Prosecution RPHQ Jammu while vote of thanks was presented by Rajesh Gill, organizing secretary of the tournament.
The proceedings of the inauguration function were conducted by R P Singh.
The inaugural match was played between Aircel XI and Sai Cricket Club and the Aircel XI defeated Sai Cricket Club by 8 runs.
Batting first, Aircel XI scored 164 runs in stipulated 20 overs for loss of 8 wkts, with Irshad (50 in 49 balls), Nitin (27 in 12 balls), Sunil Sambyal (21 in 23 balls) were the main scorers. Sanjay and Rahul shared two wickets each, Pintu and Nitu took 1wicket each.
Sai Cricket Club, in reply could not achieved the target and scored only 157 runs for 6 wickets thus lost the match by 8 runs. In the last over Sai Club need 11 runs to win but they manage 2 runs. Suman Koul was the top scorer with 86 runs in 60 balls, Varinder scored 15 runs and Vinay scored 12 runs. Nitin and Vikant took 2 wickets each,Irshad took one wicket for his team. Irshad decalared man of the Match for his alround performance.
In the second match, GCA Haryana XI scripted a comfortable win against Atman Sports XI.
Batting First Atman Sports XI made 123 runs in 20 overs for 7 wickets with Manpreet (49 in 35 balls), Abhay (15 in 35 balls) and Rajesh (14 in 7 balls) were the main scorers for Atman Sports XI, Rahul took 2 wickets whereas Ashok, Anil, Surinder and Sumit Shared 1 wicket each for GCA Haryana.
In reply , GCA Haryana had achieved the target in 16.5 overs for the loss of 4 wickets. Vinod (37), Anil (26) and Ashish (20) were the main scorers. Romil, Manpreet, Sunny shared 1 wickets for the team. Vinod of Haryana XI was declared man of the match.

In tomorrow’s fixture, K C Sports Club will take on United Blues at 8 am, while GCA Haryana will lock horns with Country Cricket Academy at 11 am and Akhnoor Club will face Tanishta Cricket XI at 1 pm.
