DIG Jammu organizes awareness camp on drug abuse

BISHNAH, Feb 22: In order to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society especially to keep away the young generation from drug, DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, Shakeel Ahmed Beig organized an awareness camp at Bishnah today.
Large number of prominent citizens, Sarpanchs, Panchs and students from various schools of Bishnah area participated in the camp.
Speaking on the occasion, DIG Jammu said that such awareness camps have been given priority under Civic Action Programmes in order to make the young generation aware about the ill effects of drugs.
DIG said that such awareness programmes not only help eradicating menace of drug abuses, but also help improving police-public relation. He also said that people should also inform the Police if any person is indulging in drug peddling in their area and strict action will be taken against those peddlers.
Beig also said that faculty members from Police Drug De-addiction and Mental Health Counselling Center Gulshan ground Jammu have been associated with the awareness camp to brief the participants about the medical treatments being provided to the drug addicts in the newly established Drug De-addiction and Mental Counselling Center Gulshan ground Jammu.
Dr Savita Kumari and Anisha Dhar Psychiatrist spoke about the facilities/medical treatment being provided to the drug addicts in the Drug De-addiction Centre Jammu. Some drug addicts were also provided counselling in the camp.
The programme was followed by a debate on the topic “Drug abuses” in which students of various participated. DIG gave away the trophies to the winners of the contestant namely Harneet Kour of Class-9th of Fatima Convent High School, Diksha of Class 10th of Sir Abrahim School and Swati Sharma of Class 7th of Bagwati Shishu Mandir who were declared 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the debate competition.
Beig was accompanied by Rajnish Pran SP, Randhir Singh SP Hqrs Jammu, Parshotam Sharma DDP, Prashant Mahajan CPO and Davinder Singh SDPO R.S.Pura, Dr. Savita Kumari, Incharge-Cum-Medical officer Drug De-addiction and Mental Health Counselling Centre Jammu and Anisha Dhar, Clinical Psychologist.
