JAMMU, Jan 17: Describing the events held on the festivals like Christmas, Diwali, Eid etc as the best way to celebrate them through the medium of sports, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu, Dilbag Singh said such sporting events apart from promoting sports and games in the State, serve as a launching pad in promoting peace and harmony and impressed upon the organizers to hold tournaments with the same objective.
Mr Dilbag said this during a valedictory function of the 2nd Christmas Soccer Championship at GGM Science College Football ground, here today.
ADGP Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion, while Kiran Wattal, Commissioner Jammu Municipality was the guest of honour. Fr Kuriakose, incharge priest of the Church presided over the function, while Hafiza Muzaffar, Executive Director Rehabilitation Council and Arvind Gupta, vice president and Zonal Head Jammu centre JK Bank were the special guests on the occasion.
Lavishing praise for the organizers in conducting this mega event, the ADGP lauded the efforts of J&K Bank in promoting soccer in the State.
The chief guest and the other dignitaries distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams of the Championship.
Earlier, the strong team of J&K Bank defeated young side of J&K Bank Academy by five goals to nil (5-0) in an easy contest and lifted the title trophy of the 2nd Christmas Soccer Championship, organized by Christian Sports Organization, J&K in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Police.
For JK Bank, Ezikol Sunday pelted the first goal in 24th minute, which was followed by back to back goals by Prem Kumar in 29th and 39th minutes of the match. Then Adnan Ayoub and Waseem Feroz added 2 more goals in 45th and 48th minutes respectively to make it (5-0) in favour of the senior Bank team.
The match was officiated by Nazir Ahmed, Koushal Sharma, Hilal Ahmed Punjabi and Harmanjeet Singh.
Kiran Wattal, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, while speaking on the occasion lauded the organizers in hold the event  with an objective to promote communal harmony and peace in the State on and around the occasion of Christmas.
Earlier, in the opening function of the final match, Shakeel Beig DIG Jammu was the chief guest, who was introduced with the finalists on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, he praised the performance of the young brigade of JK Bank Academy team in reaching the finals of the mega event.
The welcome address was presented by Fr Kuriakose and Rajesh Gill, president Christian Sports Organisation J&K presented the vote of thanks, while the proceedings of the programme were conducted by  Rajesh Dhar, member CSO.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were RK Bhat, SP PTS Kathua, Shokat Ahmad Khanyari, Nicodemus, Markes Gill, Asif Gill,Victor Sotra, Lal Gill, David Mattoo, SM Gill, William Mattoo, Naveen Athwal, Sunny Gill, Elijah Sotra, Moon Stephen, Rinku Gill, Amit Sotra and Nitu Khokher.
