JAMMU, Oct 27: In an impressive, colourful and well attended function, ADGP and Managing Director J&K Police Housing Corporation, Dilbag Singh inaugurated the North Zone Inter-University
Badminton (Men and Women) Championship, being organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, here today.
The function was presided over by Prof Neelam Saraf, Dean Academic Affairs and Incharge Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu.
While interacting with the players, Mr Dilbag asked them to show the sportsman spirit during the Championship.
He advised the students to participate in sports and cultural activities in large number to become good citizens of the State and country as well.
Mr Singh further advised the staff of the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education to channelize the energy of youth in a proper way to help them not to derail from the mainstream.
Earlier, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu presented welcome address.
He thanked all the agencies who are directly and indirectly involved in conduct of these tournaments.
“41 teams are participating in the tournament in men’s section and 32 teams in women’s section. Prof. Shivram A from the National Institute of Technology, Mangalore, Karnataka will be the neutral observer on behalf of the AIU for this tournament,” informed Mr Bhau. Prominent among others who were present on the occasion were Dr Pankaj Srivastava, Dean Students Welfare; Jatinder Khajuria, Finance Officer, O D Sharma, Vice President Badminton Federation and General Secretary, J&K Badminton Association; Balbir Singh, Secretary, Jammu District Badminton Association; Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Coordinator Campuses, Dr Jaspal, DDE; B K Magotra, H S Chib, Dr Brij Baloria, Romesh Sharma, Ravish Vaid, PD Singh, Jai Bharat, Gautam Sharma and Vikesh Sharma.
In today’s matches, University of Jammu outplayed Dr Y S Parmar University, Solan by 3-0; JMI University, New Delhi beat CDL University Sirsa by 3-0; CSJM University Kanpur trounced CSKUP Krishi Vishaw Vidyalaya, Palampur by 3-0; SMVDU Katra got better of Bundelkhand University Jhansi by 3-2; GJU Hisar beat GADV University Ludhiana by 3-0; Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture Technology and Science prevailed over University of Kashmir by 3-0; Punjabi University Patiala beat Chandigarh University, Mohali by 3- 0; PAU Ludhiana beat University of Allahabad by 3-1; H P University Shimla beat Amity University by 3-2 and GGS Indraprastha University beat BGSB University Rajouri by 3-0.
