JAMMU, Oct 5: The sport of shooting apart from District Jammu is making inroads in the Districts of Doda, Samba, Poonch, Reasi and Udhampur. The budding shooters of the region are showing zeal, zest and skill in this sport, which has yet to establish infrastructure in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. For that matter, the Shooting Range at Delhi Public School (DPS), Jammu, the only Range in over 200 DPS institutions across the Country, is simply an asset not only for the shooters of DPS, but for the shooters of the entire State. Keeping all this in view, one should make all out efforts to enhance the standard of shooting in the State.
This was expressed by Dilbagh Singh, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu and president Jammu District Shooting Association while speaking on the valedictory function of the Inter-District Shooting Competition at DPS Shooting Range, here today.
“I, on behalf of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifle Association (JKRA) also Jammu and Kashmir Police Department, assure all help to the State shooters for honing their skill”, the IGP said.
Appreciating the performance of the shooters, Dilbagh said that J&K shooters possess talent but need exposure and advanced training for fine tuning it, adding that JKRA is leaving no stone unturned in catching the shooters young and coaching them.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Ashok Kumar, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, under whose supervision the tournament was held gave brief report of the championship and said that over 3000 players across Jammu Division have participated in various sports activities so far in the season.
SS Sodhi, Director DPS also spoke on the occasion and assured for generous and free help to the interested candidates for promoting shooting in the State.
Meanwhile, in Under-17 boys 10m pistol, Sangram Singh of DPS Jammu claimed gold by securing 182 points out of 200, while Namandeep Singh Dua bagged silver by scoring 173 points and the bronze medal went to Abhay Gupta of the same school by accumulating 132 points.
In Under-19 boys 10m pistol, Harshdeep Singh, Harbinder Singh and Ananya Sahni of DPS claimed gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were JP Singh, DIG Jammu-Kathua Range, Parbhat Singh, SSP Jammu, ID Soni, State Commissioner Bharat Scouts and Guides, MM Joshi, Wing Commander, Ranjeet Kalra, Sudershan Sonar, Principal DPS Jammu and Sudhir Kumar, treasurer JKRA.
