KOLKATA, Mar 1: Though, the bowlers have done a superb job in all the three matches played so far, yet the dismal show by the batsmen left the team in the lurch as Jammu and Kashmir suffered 3rd consecutive defeat against Services in the ongoing Group D Vijay Hazare Trophy, being hosted by Cricket Association of Bengal at various venues, here.
Lack of application by the batsmen and their nervousness in the pressure situations has been the worrying factor for J&K throughout this tournament and today as well.
Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir bowlers restricted Services to a modest total of 214 runs in 48.4 overs. Nakul Verma top scored with 68 runs, while SU Yadav scored 52 runs. Gourav Kochar and Diwesh Pathania contributed 29 and 26 runs to the total respectively. For J&K, skipper Parvez Rasool was pick of the bowlers, who took 3 important wickets by conceding 36 runs in his 10 overs, while Manzoor Dar took 2 wickets in 4 overs by giving away 16 runs. Mohd Mudhasir gave away 45 runs in his 8.4 overs, claiming 2 wickets, while Ramdayal picked one wicket in his 7 overs by conceding 30 runs.
In reply, J&K batsmen, third time in this tournament, failed to hold their nerves to cope up with the pressure and the last four batsmen were dismissed within 21 runs. At one point of time, J&K needed 46 runs (159/5), with 5 wickets in hand and plenty of overs in their kitty, however, the set batsmen once again failed to deliver when it mattered the most and the innings folded at 190 runs, thus J&K lost the match by 24 runs. Ahmed Banday top scored with 59 runs off 65 balls, studded with 7 fours and 2 sixes, while Punit Bisht contributed 45 runs. Ramdayal and Aditya Pratap Singh also scored 35 and 23 runs respectively.
For Services, Vipin Singh took 3 wickets, while Diwesh Pathania bagged 2 wickets. Shakti Malvia and Suraj Yadav claimed one wicket each.
