District Judo C’ship held

GANDERBAL, Oct 24: The two-day Ganderbal District Judo Championship concluded today at the Indoor Sports Hall, Sehpora, Ganderbal, under the banner of the J&K Sports Council.
The opening ceremony was graced by Amir Ahmad, Principal of DPS Ganderbal, and Bilal Ahmad, Chairman of River Hills Ganderbal, while Gowher Khan, Joint Secretary of the J&K Judo Association, was the guest of honour at the closing ceremony.
The championship featured notable appearances, including Rahil Shafi, a Khelo India Judo Coach and International Judo Medalist, alongside prominent figures such as Asif Farooq and Hafiz Mohammad Asif, adding prestige to the event. Inayat Khan of Khelo India Judo Centre Ganderbal was declared the Best Fighter in the boys’ category, while Baiza Tariq took the title of Best Fighter in the girls’ category.
The competition included sub-junior, junior, and senior categories, with participants competing in various weight classes. The athletes demonstrated their skills and fighting spirit, earning accolades for their performances. The event highlighted the growing interest in judo within the region, particularly among young athletes, and provided them with a platform to showcase their abilities at a competitive level.
