JAMMU, Aug 4; Government Gandhi Memorial Science College organised a District-level essay writing competition on the theme “Nation First, Always First”, here today.
The event was organised under the patronage of Dr Ravender Kumar Tickoo, College Principal and guidance of Dr Chanchal Angral, Associate Professor, Department of Zoology.
The competition marked the beginning of a series of events to be held in the College leading up to the celebration of ‘Independence Day’.
About 38 students from 19 Colleges across the district participated in the competition and expressed their views beautifully in essays written in Hindi, Urdu and Dogri. The competition was judged by eminent academicians Prof RP Sharma, Retired Professor (English), University of Jammu, Prof Renu Nanda, Retired Professor (Hindi), Higher Education Department and Prof Yash Paul Sharma, Associate Professor (Urdu), GDC Marheen. The essays were evaluated on the basis of content and presentation.
The first position was bagged by Sonali Saini of Govt. PG College for Women, Gandhi Nagar. The second position was secured by Riya Gupta of GDC Jourian and Bunty Sharma of Govt MAM College secured the third position. The winners were given cash prizes, while certificates were presented to all the participants.
The event was coordinated by Prof Akanksha Parihar, Prof Asha Sharmhal, Dr Jyotdeep Kour, Prof Palak and Prof Kanika.
