LEH, Nov 20: The District-level Kala Utsav competition was held at Paras Hall, Govt Boys Higher Secondary School, here today.
The ‘Kala Utsav’ is an initiative of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, launched in 2015 to promote arts in education, by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of school students (Secondary level) in the country.
The jury assessed the various performances of the competitions.
Director School Education UT Ladakh, Dr Safdar Ali emphasised the importance of arts in overall personality development of a child and appreciated the students and organising team.
The selected students performed on six visual /performing art forms viz. vocal music (traditional folk); instrumental music (percussive); instrumental music (melodic); dance (folk); visual arts (2-D); visual arts (3-D); indigenous toys and games and solo acting.
The finalist for the State level Kala Utsav from the district are Stanzin Samchok of DPS Leh and Jigmat Palmo of GHS Sakti in folk dance, Jigmet Zangpo of GHSS Temisgam and Sonam Chuskit of GHSS Khalsi in folk song, Tsering Nurboo from Lamdon Model SSS & Tsering Lamo from GHS Chumathang in instrumental music- melodic and Tsewang Namgail of GHS Chumathang in instrumental music- percussive.
Stanzin Namgail and Tsewang Dolma of of GHSS Temisgam in solo acting, while Urgain Tsering of GHSS & Jigmat Chosdon of DPS Leh in visual art (2D), Sonam Stanzin of GHSS Saspol & Tsering Yangdol of GHSS Temisgam in visual art (3-D) and Rinchen Namgail and Tsering Skitzom of GHS Anlay in indigenous toy/games.
The finalists will participate in ‘State-level Kala Utsav’ to be held in the last week of November.
