POONCH Sept 12: Closing ceremony of weeklong District Sports Festival organized by District Police Poonch under Civic Action Program was held at sports stadium Poonch.
Deputy Commissioner Poonch Tariq Ahmed Zargar was the chief guest on the occasion. During the festival 300 players of different schools and clubs participated in 14 events that is cricket, Tug of war, volleyball, kho kho, kabbadi, Discuss throw, javelin throw, football, short put , 100 mtrs race, 200 mtrs race , taekwondo, hockey etc.
Senior Superintendent of Police Rajiv Pandey, Adl SP Masror Mir, DySP DAR Mohan Sharma, DySP Hqtr Shaheed Nayeem, DySP Telecom , officials from J&K State Sports Council and Department of Youth and Sports were present in the closing ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion DC advised youth to actively participate in co-curricular activities and sports for their overall development. He also appreciated the Poonch Police for organizing such festivals which promote the sports culture among the rural youth.
SSP congratulated the players for maintaining high standards of discipline during the entire tournament.
All the winners as well as participants were awarded with medals, certificates and trophies. Also the district Police Poonch in its unique initiative distributed saplings among all the participants of sports festival.
The cricket boys’ trophy was clinched by Poonch Royal team while girls’ trophy was won by Stadium XI team.
In hockey, Power House Club won the overall trophy in girls section while Stadium XI and in boys section Power House Hockey Club Poonch and Baba Bandha Bahadur Singh Club were the joint winners.
Jhullas Club won the Football Trophy while Volleyball final was won by Shaheed Manjit Singh Club in boys section.
GHSS Harni clinched girls’ Volleyball trophy and Kabaddi trophy, while boys Kabbadi final was won by Banwat Club.
Kalai club won boys Tug of War while GHSS team A won in girls section.
In Taekwondo Karan Bhargav and Avleen Kour were declared as best players while in 100 mts girls race Jagpreet Kour clinched first position and inn200 mts boys Arshad Ayub got first place.
