SAMBA, Oct 21: District Softball Championship, organised by District Association under ‘My Youth My Pride’ initiative of J&K Sports Council, concluded at Government Higher Secondary School, Birpur, here today.
The final match was played between Ever Green Softball Club and Birpur Softball Club in senior men which was won by Birpur Softball Club by 2 points, while in girls section, Girls High School Birpur defeated Victory Club by 1 point.
Over 120 young players from different Clubs & Schools of the district participated in sub-junior (boys & girls), junior (boys & girls) and senior (men & women) categories.
Principal of the host School, Anju Devi was the chief guest on the valedictory ceremony, while Veena Jamwal Sarpanch Birpur, Vijay Laxmi Headmistress GHS Birpur, Chaman Lal Bhat, senior vice president J&K Softball Association, Ekta Singh GHS, Birpur and Harkesh Singh Jasrotia former coach were guests of honour.
Special thanks were presented by District president Padam Dev Singh to general secretary of Association, Wasim Raja Khan for taking initiative to start tournaments at grassroots level to uplift Softball sport in J&K, while Madan Mohan, Pawan Kumar, Rawat Singh, Harvinder Singh Sodhi and Deeraj Singh were part of technical team of the championship.
Later, the chief guest distributed medals and trophies among the winner and runner-ups teams.
