Div Com discusses arrangements for Red Cross Mela

JAMMU, Nov 22: Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) is organizing the annual two-day Red Cross Mela from January 10 at Gulshan Ground,here.
This was informed by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shantmanu who is also Chairman Regional Red Cross Society, Region Jammu while chairing a meeting convened to discuss the arrangements for the annual mela here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Shantmanu said that the objective of organizing the Red Cross Mela was to create awareness among the general masses regarding Red Cross Society and generate funds for the welfare activities of the society.
He stressed for greater involvement of social organizations and youth in extending service to downtrodden and those facing distress due to manmade or natural calamities besides providing services to destitute, orphans and needy people.
He appreciated the efforts of Regional Red Cross Society for holding the mega event every year by involving the civil administration, educational institutions, NGOs and general masses.
Threadbare discussions were held with regard to arrangements for uninterrupted power and water supply, security, sanitation, fire services, medicare, other arrangements at the venue during the mela days.
He directed the Municipal authorities to make available mobile toilets units and deploy additional safai karamcharies to ensure cleanliness in and around the venue. The Traffic Department was asked to ensure smooth flow of traffic to contain congestions/traffic jams in the area.
To make the event more attractive, various Government and private schools and other organizations would put up Joy Rides and organize Magic Show, cultural items, Exhibitions, etc would be some other highlights of the Mela.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Red Cross Society Jammu, DIG Jammu Shakeel Ahmed Beig, DIG CRPF Preveen, CE PWD, SSP Traffic Mohan Lal, Joint Director Tourism Dr. Narupa Rai, Joint Commissioner JMC Kapil Sharma, Deputy Director Information (PR) Jammu Afshan Masood, Deputy Director Handloom Namrita Dogra besides Member State Committee Y V Sharma, Chamber of Commerce Rakesh Gupta, President BBIA Annil Suri, Representatives of various degree colleges and Schools.
