Divisional Level Inter District Badminton Competition gets underway

JAMMU, Aug 25: Divisional Level Inter-District Competition in the discipline of Badminton of boys and girls under all age groups gets underway at MA Stadium and District Police Lines, here.
In all, 132 boys/girls drawn from six districts of Jammu Division which included Samba, Kathua, Doda, Poonch, Udhampur and the host district Jammu are taking part in the Competition.
The competition is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, District Jammu, under the patronage of Sheikh Fayaz Ahmed, Director Youth Services and Sports, and under the Chairmanship of Madan Lal, Joint Director Youth Services and Sports, Jammu, while Chanchal Kour, DYSSO Jammu is the organizing secretary of the competition, who earlier declared the competitions open.
While quoting ‘All work and no play makes jack a dull boy’ Mrs Kour said, that sports is integral part of education and education without sports is meaningless.
The main objective of this competition is to select the teams to represent the State at the National scene.
At District Police lines in Badminton Under-14 boys singles, Jammu outplayed Poonch by 2-0 sets, while in doubles, Jammu defeated Poonch by (21-8, 21-9).
In Under-17 boys singles semifinals, Poonch drubbed Samba by (21-13, 21-16) and Udhampur drubbed Kathua, while in doubles semifinals, Poonch drubbed Samba by (21-9, 21-12) and Kathua trounced Udhampur by (19-21, 21-17, 21-16).
In Under-19 boys 1st semifinal singles, Jammu prevailed over Kathua by 2-0 and in 2nd semifinal, Udhampur got better of Poonch by 2-1 and in doubles, Udhampur outclassed  Poonch by 21-8, 21-11.
At MA Stadium, in Badminton Under-14 girls singles semifinal, Jammu defeated Udhampur by 21-18, 21-16 and in doubles, Jammu trounced Udhampur by 21-7, 21-7.
In Under-17 girls semifinal, Kathua beat Poonch by 2-1 and Samba defeated Doda by 2-1.
In Under-19 girls singles semifinal, Poonch got the better of Jammu by 2-0. In singles,  Poonch beat Jammu by 21-2, 21-8 and in doubles, Poonch prevailed over Jammu by (21-11, 21-8)
Meanwhile, the Under-19 inter school/inter zonal tournament for boys and girls, which was earlier inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Avtar Singh Chib on August 23, 2017 concluded here today at Sports Stadium Rajouri.
In the tournament which was organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, 261 boys and 102 girls drawn from different schools participated in various sports including Volleyball, Kho-Kho and Kabaddi.
Under male category, the teams of HSS Dhangri, HSS Doongi and HSS Rajouri won the first prizes in Volleyball, Kho-Kho and Kabaddi.
In girl’s category the team of HSS Planger won the Volleyball finals whereas the team of HSS Kakora and HSS Dhangri stood first in Kho-Kho and Kabaddi respectively.
The tournament was supervised and coordinated by the joint efforts of DYSSO, ZPEOs  of Baljarallan, Koteranka and Doongi.
The four days zonal level inter school tournament of zone Jourian and Khour for Under-19 boys and girls in the disciplines of Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Volleyball and Wrestling, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports concluded at Govt Girls High School Jourian, today.
The matches were conducted under the supervision of Bhim Singh Jamwal, ZPEO Jourian and Romesh Chander, ZPEO Khour.
In Under-19 Volleyball final, Govt HSS Jourian defeated Govt HSS Pargwal by (2-0) sets, while in Under-19 Kabaddi final, Govt HSS Pallanwala outplayed Govt HSS Dhakaer by 20 points.
