UDHAMPUR, Sept 26: Divisional Level Inter-District Volleyball tournament for boys in all age groups got underway at Degree College Boys’ ground here today. The tournament is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports District Udhampur in which about 250 boys drawn from nine districts of Jammu division are taking part.
Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Ravinder Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion, who declared the tournament open while Principal PG College for boys Udhampur, Udhay Bano was the special guest and Deputy District Election Officer Udhampur, Sapna Kotwal presided over the function.
While speaking on the occasion, DDC appreciated the efforts of organizers and said that such activities would go a long way in nourishing the sports talent in the district. He called upon the youth to take part in sports activities to keep themselves physically and mentally fit.
District Youth Services and Sports, Sudesh Kumar gave a detailed report of the sports activities being carried out by the Department for encouraging sports culture in the district.
In U-14 Boys, District Ramban beat District Kathua by 2-0 sets, District Poonch drubbed District Samba by 2-0 sets, District Udhampur defeated District Rajouri by 2-0 sets and District Doda got the better of District Jammu by 2-1 sets.
In U-17 boys, District Ramban prevailed over District Samba by 2-0 sets, District Doda defeated District Udhampur by 2-0 sets, District Jammu defeated district Rajouri by 2-0 sets and District Kathua defeated District Poonch by 2-0 sets.
In U-19 boys, District Kathua defeated district Rajouri by 2-1 sets and District Ramban defeated district Jammu by 2-1 sets.
Semifinals and finals will be played tomorrow. All the matches were officiated by Kuldeep Sharma, Manik Nargotra, Raman Kumar, Meenu, Nisha Sharma, Vikrant, Sanjeev verma,vinod kumar, Ved Parkesh, Pushap Kumar, Surinder Gupta, Rakesh Kumar and Rakesh Modi.
Among other who present on the occasion were Zonal Physical Education Officer Udhampur Zonal Physical Education Officer Jib, Zonal Physical Education Officer Panchari, Jaswinder Singh, Sanjay Gupta, Som Dev Khajuria, Rakesh Kumar, Jagdish Kumar, Pritam Singh, Bandana Sharma and Des Raj.
