JAMMU, Nov 4: Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice Hasnain Massodi today granted last opportunity of two weeks to the State for divulging the names of the illegal occupants of 20 lakh kanal of State land across the Jammu and Kashmir.
When the PIL against alleged nexus of politicians, police officers, bureaucrats and land mafia in grabbing the State land came up for hearing, the State again sought adjournment to comply with the earlier direction whereby the State was directed to divulge the identity and names of illegal occupants of 20 lakh kanal State land.
However, Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed appearing for the PIL stated that information would be available with the respondents when the concerned department had answered the starred question on the floor of the State Assembly by stating that more than 20 lakh kanal of State land is under illegal occupation of various persons.
After hearing counsel for the PIL and Senior Additional Advocate General Gagan Basotra for the State, the DB, while taking serious note of the repeated adjournments sought by the State to comply with the earlier direction, granted one last opportunity to State to furnish the information within two weeks. The DB directed Registry to list the PIL on November 25, 2013.
