JAMMU, May 4: In a concerted effort to enhance legal awareness and promote child protection, the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) of Samba and Budgam, Jammu & Kashmir, held significant legal awareness programs focused on pivotal child protection legislation.
The DLSA Samba, under the direction of Adnan Sayeed, Chairman and Principal District & Sessions Judge, organized an informative session centered on “The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) of Children Act, 2015” and “The NALSA (Child Friendly Legal Services to Children and their Protection) Scheme, 2015.
This event, held at the JJ Board premises in Samba, specifically targeted children in conflict with the law, members of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), and Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Samba.
Adnan Sayeed, in his chief guest address, highlighted the objectives of the NALSA Scheme, focusing on child rights and their protection.
Hitesh Sharma, Legal Aid Defence Counsel, and Neemisha Rajput, Chairperson of CWC Samba, also delivered key speeches on the rights available under the Juvenile Justice Act and the principles for handling children in need.
Simultaneously, DLSA Budgam collaborated with the Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) of Chrar-I-Sharief and Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Chrar-I-Sharief, to conduct a similar awareness program.
This event featured speeches by Khalil Ahmad Choudhary, Chairman of DLSA Budgam, who emphasized the crucial role of legal aid clinics in providing free legal aid to the underprivileged.
Jahangir Ahmad Bakshi, Secretary of DLSA, stressed the importance of community engagement in legal matters, and Fakur-un-Nisa, Chairperson of TLSC Chrar-I-Sharief, highlighted the significance of legal awareness for children’s protection.
Advocate Reyaz Ahmad, a panel lawyer, provided an overview of the Juvenile Justice Care & Protection Act, 2015, further educating attendees on the law’s provisions.
Both programs were aligned with the Action Plan issued by the J&K Legal Services Authority for May 2024, aiming to bridge the gap between legal services and community needs, particularly focusing on empowering children and youth by informing them of their rights and available legal protections.
Key figures like Rekha Kapoor Nischal, Secretary of DLSA Samba, delivered a vote of thanks, and Nawaz Shareef, District Child Protection Officer, presented a formal welcome at the Samba event.
The events not only highlighted the crucial roles played by various legal authorities but also demonstrated the legal community’s dedication to fostering a justice-aware society.
