Sir,
This has reference to the article’ Udhampur- A Repository of Dogra Culture’ DE Feb 12.
It is a matter of great satisfaction that people in Udhampur are still holding to their roots.
At a time when things, values, traditionals are changing rapidly due to a number of factors in many parts of the country, people of Udhampur try to maintain their cultural identity. One should feel quite proud to be associated with ones culture. Culture is not mere wearing a particular dress or eating certain local dishes, rather it is cumulative wisdom which is passed on from one generation to another. There are certain cultural practices which are area specific, and meet the needs of people of that area. The wisdom, knowledge associated with that practice may not have evolved all of a sudden, but will have taken shape gradually. To reject or disassociate with it all of a sudden or under an influence is totally unacceptable. However, one should discard it only when one is sure that it hampers rational thinking or it becomes an obstacle in forward march of the people.
The Dogra culture has its own flavour, with a rich variety of dresses, cuisine, folklore, values and societal norms. It’s vibrant, throbbing and diversified. Everyone should contribute to make it more rich, and try to pass on it to postering.
Yours etc….
