JAMMU, Nov 15: Former Member Legislative Council (MLC), Vikramaditya Singh has said that the history of Dogra rulers must be given proper projection and historical record be corrected to give Dogra rulers their due share of respect and credit.
In a press statement here today, the former MLC said that the lesson must be taken from the countrywide debate and protests being witnessed over Sanjay Leela Bansali’s film `Padmavati’ where distortion in the history has been alleged, giving vent to public anger. He said the Jammu must use this debate to focus on the distortion of historical facts pertaining to 100 years of Dogra rule in our own State.
The Ex-MLC emphasized that the exclusion of this period from our text books is inexcusable. ” We must continue to demand that out historical record is corrected to give the Dogra rulers due respect and credit in the historical perspective of Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
Expressing solidarity with Rajput community of Rajasthan, that is protesting against release of film `Padmavati’, Ex-MLC said though it is necessary to respect creative freedom of writers, artists and film makers but it can not be at the cost of wrongful portrayal of history that hurts sentiments of a particular community. It is being seen as deliberate attempt to distort history. While public protests are fully justified in a democratic society, any form of violence is unfortunate, Singh said.
