JAMMU, Nov 23: The sixth and the last show of current year’s series of the shows of Internationally acclaimed Dogri play ‘Bawa Jitto’ was staged this evening at Matrika Auditorium, SMVDU Katra under the direction of Padamshree Balwant Thakur.
On the occasion, Prof Sudhir Kumar Jain, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU was the chief guest on the occasion. Based on the supreme sacrifice of a great Devotee of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, the current series was supported by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
A true representative of the traditional performing arts heritage, culture and folk lore of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi hills, the play Bawa Jitto based on a folk tale of Aghar Jitto (Katra) is scripted by Late Prof Ram Nath Shastri.
The sustenance of this play is supported by SMVDSB in the larger interest of the preservation, promotion and propagation of the cultural heritage of the region.
The play Bawa Jitto which became the first theatre production of the region to bring the culture to the International limelight was produced in the year 1986 and as of now is the longest living theatre play of the country.
Yesterday Bawa Jitto was staged at the auditorium of Spritual Growth Centre, Katra where Dr MK Kumar, Additional Chief Executive Officer SMVDSB was the chief guest on the occasion.
The role of Bawa Jitto was played by celebrated TV/Film and stage actor Arvind Anand. He was supported by senior actors like Suresh Kumar as Mehta Beer Singh, Anil Tickoo as Malli, Neeraj Kant as Sarpanch, Gaurav Jamwal as Isso, Dimple Sharma as Rullo, Pawan Verma as Ghaghi. Another noteworthy performance was by young Sanchita Dubey as Bua Gauri and Sajra Qadir as Jojan. Others who gave vibrant performances included Mohammd Yaseen, Rajan Thakyal, Amit Raina, Pankaj Verma, Sakshi Prakash, Vaishali Verma, Juhi Singh, Sachin Saini, Shekher Sharma, Gauri Thakur, Masood Qadir,Ravinder Manhas. The lights were designed and executed by Ankush Lakhnotra.
