Vijaypur, Aug 1: Cautioning the Power Development Department (PDD) to provide adequate electricity in Vijaypur and Ramgarh area, former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh today threatened that if their demand is not considered, the people would be forced to stage demonstration in the office of the Executive Engineer.
“The people have been living under miserable condition due to the non availability of the electricity and their routine work has also been affected badly,” Mr Singh said.
After listening to the complaints, Singh said, the people should be provided adequate power supply otherwise they will stage demonstration and gherao the office of Executive Engineer in the coming days.
The civil administration in Vijaypur has adopted partial approach towards the people as they have been allegedly working under the influence of local MLA.
“Those having affiliation with a regional political party are given preference while general masses are allegedly forced to suffer,” he alleged.
Regarding the long pending demand of the displaced persons/ refugees, Mr Singh said that over an year has passed but the bureaucrats are creating hurdles and not sending package to the Union Government for one time settlement.
He said that if the Government is serious regarding demands of the refugees/displaced persons of 1947, 1965 and 1971 camp/non camp, then it should give their rights.
“As these displaced persons belong to the State, their settlement is in the hands of the J&K Government and Government should not delay the process of their rehabilitation/settlement,” he added.
Referring to the demand for reservation in various sectors, Manjit Singh said that the people living along the ALC or LoC are given reservation in jobs as well as in educational institutions but people of International Border are ignored.
“The people living near IB are facing the same problem and they should be given reservation,” he demanded.
