JAMMU, Apr 3: Heart patients should stop worrying and take care of their health, stay away from infection and infected people since prevention is best medicine in these times when Coronavirus pandemic has taken toll of human lives all over the globe.
Dr. Sushil Sharma, Head of the Department (HoD) of Cardiology in GMC and Superspeciality Hospital (GMC&SSH) Jammu said this while requesting people to stay home and take social distancing seriously. “We should stop ostricising people who get infected with Coronavirus and understand that it is a pandemic and anyone can get infected unknowingly. Keep washing your hands, stay away from people having flu and fever, ring up nearest health center or hospital, narrate the symptoms and after getting consultation, do as directed by the health authorities,” said Dr. Sushil.
He added “Heart patients need to take extra care. They should wear mask when going in public, stop roaming around in market unnecessarily, take medicines regularly, keep an eye on their blood pressure and diabetes.” Dr. Sushil said that Coronavirus infection is added risk for underlying heart disease.
“Studies are showing that heart patients are at greater risk but that does not mean, those suffering from heart ailments should remain in constant fear. Stress kills you much faster than disease does. Do not take stress and keep doing what you are doing to keep your heart healthy,” said Dr. Sushil. He stressed that studies are showing even elderly heart patients surviving Coronavirus infection if the same is diagnosed timely and proper care of the patient is taken.
