DoPK celebrates Vitasta Divas

JAMMU, Aug 31: Daughters of Panun Kashmir (DoPK) organised the traditional function today, in connection with the celebration of Vitasta Divas, the birthday of river Vitasta (Jehlum). Kashmiri Pandits revere river Vitasta as an incarnation of Mata Parvati and as such the Daughters of Panun Kashmir, the Women Wing of PK, has been observing this day for the last 30 years on the Ranbir Canal.
The programme was presided over by Virender Raina, president, PK. Vimla Chrungoo, secretary, DOPK and its senior members Sunita Raina, Vijay Saproo, Santosh Sharma and others were also present in the programme.
Vimla Chrungoo presented the welcome address.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Upinder Kaul, general secretary, PK. An Aarti was observed with flower petals and the lighting of earthen lamps that were floated in the Ranbir canal with full devotion and fervour creating a magnetic effect all around.
Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, senior BJP and KP leader was the chief guest on the occasion. He presented the cultural and historical background of the day.
He said that the BJP under the dynamic leadership of PM Modi is for transparency and accountability in the working of the Government and it has a huge agenda for the welfare of the people especially the youth and for the development of the UT. The resolutions passed in the recently held State level Executive meeting are a pointer in this connection. The process of reform in the working of the public offices is being initiated and its results will be in the public domain soon.
Virender Raina while speaking on the occasion lauded the effort of the DoPK in observing the day without fail for the last 30 years and keeping the tradition of thousands of years old alive. He said that it is most important to keep our traditions and culture alive and pass it on to the next generations.
Raina spoke about the religio-cultural significance of river Vitasta. He informed as to how the unique Sharda culture evolved on the banks of Mata Vitasta.
Upinder Koul in his presentatation said“Our persistent efforts are a tribute to Mata Vitasta and a promise that we shall throng her banks once again with the establishment of a separate Homeland in Kashmir”.
Kamal Bagati said that the Gupkar Group must learn to adjust themselves to the new realities and try to fit themselves in the new political frame, without Article 370 and 35A and not to mislead the innocent people any more. The main attraction of the programme was the participation of youth activists Dr. Rudra Kaul, Ashtosh Pandit, Rukul Raina, Vikas Koul, Mukesh Yogi, Dhanush Koul and Shashank Koul.
The convenor PK youth, Sameer Bhat administered the oath to the activists to keep Homeland struggle alive.
